Wierd...

An email came in today, through the probligo’s letterbox, from a person calling herself “Estelle Schumann”. I have no idea of who this virtual person might be, but the email was a request that I allow her to write a piece on education to this noble establishment; “a blog post which discusses educational reform, learning theory, and its intersection with the state of standardized testing today could be of some potential value to your readers.”

The attraction for the request was apparently, this post from a long time ago..

Don’t bother going read it, unless you really want to; it centres on a post from another blog and relating to the Iraq war and the blind rantings of a simple American mind who was led to a belief that everything America wants and does is right.

I suspect, and I am not going to try and confirm the suspicion, that the writer of the email has exactly the same motivations in writing to me. Ah… yeah, right!! I suspect that anything he/she/it might leave on my site would be very educational for those coming behind.

The second grin comes from the postscript –
"We only truly learn when the future has become history; when we're leaping forward, turning mistakes into achievements." ~Anonymous

Since when has America ever learnt from their mistakes? When has any aggressor nation ever learnt from their mistakes?

One thing certain, this old guy is not falling for it.

Strange, I got a similar email this morning from this 'Estelle'. She apparently decided that she wanted to collaborate with me on an article about education reform in the US based on something I wrote about the Utoya Island massacre last July: http://uprootedpalestinians.blogspot.fr/2011/08/oslo-terror-attacks-zionism-rears-its.html

I thought the email might have been spam until I saw an article by this ES here: http://westernfrontamerica.com/2012/04/20/benefits-states-charge-schools/

And a blog here: http://www.nativetelecom.org/blogs/estelleshumann

I think this is ES mentioned here: http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/washingtonpost/access/39432055.html?dids=39432055:39432055&FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT&date=MAR_03%2C_1999&author=&pub=The_Washington_Post&desc=OBITUARIES&pqatl=google

Nor am I Probligo. I received a similar request today and in blogging the name Estele Schumman to check on her bona fides came across your post.

I imagine there are a few of s trotting around as Kniall suggests.

Why do all these scammers and trolls want to ruin our lives in the blogosphere? What's in it for them?

By the way, I'm pleased to meet you all the way from Australia.

That Estelle sure gets around. I write a blog about garage sales and she wants to write a guest post. Sheesh!

I just got an email from "her" too, via my blog. My impression is that "she" is a writer with a cause simply looking to get her stuff "published" wherever "she" can.

There sure wasn't any remarks from her about my blog, subjects or concerns. So far.

Hi all, I got the same note, and I also found this blog by searching that name. Odd.

hello! I got the email too and the same quotes as you mention in your post. I told her to send me a draft of her post and I'd consider it. It's a general post about online education that is not really fitting for my blog. it has links to a website www.onlineschools.org and I can't figure out who is behind it. the about page is very vague. i did not reply back and she has since sent me two emails asking why i have not yet published her post. is this some sort of a weird marketing campaign? seems so odd...

Yep, I have just had one of these emails too and I receive quite a few of them. As far as I can tell the purpose of them is to get as many disparate blogs as possible all to point to a particular link; this tells Google that the link is of value, and pushes its ranking up in the search results.

I now have a dedicated space on my blog where I post all of these spam requests and normally I just delete the emails, however I'm going to play along this time and will post anything Estelle sends me, although I won't include any link of course! I am collecting them here http://brodiesnotes.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/similar-spam-emails-wanting-me-to-use.html
